Documents Required for Marriage in Australia |

| You need to be over the Age of 18 |
||
| Notice of Intended Marriage Form (NOIM) (Form 13) Available from any Court House in Australia , any Australian Embassy overseas, or from any Marriage Celebrant. |

| The NOIM may be downloaded from this site Here or www.ag.gov.au/celebrants |
||
| The NOIM Form needs to be in my hands as your Celebrant, no later than one month and one day before the date of your marriage, but sooner is better. |
||
| Please note this Form is only valid for 18 months. |
||
| Only one (1) signature is sufficient to be witnessed. The other can sign in the Celebrant's presence even if it is 1 hour before the Ceremony. | ||

| The NOIM has to be signed by both parties intending to marry, and be witnessed by either- an Authorised Celebrant a Commissioner for Declarations an Australian Consular Officer an Australian Diplomatic Officer an Australian Justice of the Peace an Australian Barrister or Solicitor an Australian legally qualified Medical Practitioner a member of the Australian Federal Police a member of a Police Force of a State or Territory of Australia a Notary Public |

| ORIGINAL BIRTH CERTIFICATES These are to be viewed by the Marriage Celebrant only, and not kept. It's advisable to photocopy the certificates and send the photocopies with the NOIM Form. |

| PASSPORT - for those from another Country, the Celebrant will need to view your current passport. |
||
| DECREE ABSOLUTE - if you have been married before, proof of divorce needs to be shown. Again the original needs to be sighted by the Celebrant. |
||
| DEATH CERTIFICATE - if widowed, the original death certificate needs to be shown to the Celebrant. |
||
| CHANGE OF NAME CERTIFICATE - legal proof of any name change to be obtained from Births, Deaths & Marriages. Original must be produced. | ||
If from Overseas |

| NOIM Form - this form is a legal document so do take care with it. Complete it and have your signature witnessed in the presence of- an Australian Embassy Official an Australian Consular Officer a Notary Public The Official must stamp the document and date it. Remember only one signature sufficient, if inconvenient for both to travel to Notary Public or Embassy. Notary Public - couple to ask a Law Firm for a list of Notary Publics in their area. POST OR FAX IF TIME IS A PROBLEM, the NOIM, which has been duly witnessed, plus photocopies of whatever other documents are relevant to your situation. |

| THE BRIDE AND GROOM MUST BRING WITH THEM ORIGINALS OF THESE DOCUMENTS LISTED: BIRTH CERTIFICATE -the entire Document must be shown in full and if born in Australia must be produced an Extract is still acceptable. If born overseas, a resident of Australia and unable to produce a Birth Certificate the Celebrant has to sight a Passport (an out of date one is acceptable),and have the client sign a Statutory Declaration in Celebrants presence as to the reason. PASSPORT - IF A VISITOR to Australia and not an Australian citizen DIVORCE PAPER - Absolute date is required. DEATH CERTIFICATE if widowed, the original death certificate needs to be shown to the Celebrant. CHANGE OF NAME CERTIFICATE - legal proof of any name change to be obtained from Births, Deaths & Marriages. Original must be produced. OFFICIAL CONSENT IF UNDER AGE OF 18. |

| ARE ALL THE DOCUMENTS IN ENGLISH? If not they will need to be officially translated and authorised by a person who is a legally recognised translator. Celebrant needs to see both the Original Documents and the translated Documents. |
